Andrew Lesuer
Biography
Andrew Winfred Lesuer was born and raised in Colorado. He has earned his living for the past 10 years as a college-level instructor of fine woodworking, as a freelance contractor and craftsman, and as an artist. Andy’s love for the craft is only matched by his love for sharing the wonderful medium that is wood with any who are interested in it. With a speciality in lutherie (crafting/repairing stringed instruments) and guitar-making in particular, Andy lives to constantly improve his blending of craftsmanship, artistry, and science into his work. A tinkerer from childhood, Andy fell head over heels in love with woodworking and the infinite possibilities of the medium and has never looked back.
Artist Statement
I found many years ago that my intentions with my work lie not so much in a final, declarative statement but in an exploration of process, possibilities, my own personality and subconscious, and the universe at large. I have always tended strongly towards a need to try and reinvent the wheel. I enjoy few things more than dreaming up a unique and interesting problem or process and then hurling myself into solving that problem and refining that process. I am always drawn towards creating methods and processes that I have never seen done before. I have always had a math/science type of disposition and as such I like to let both the order, and the chaos of the universe as I see it flow into how I solve problems and make decisions. I am both a true lover of hand tools and the traditional and a shameless user of CNC technology, not to cut corners, save time, do production runs, or duplicate the hand work of the masters of the past, but to push the envelope and myself into things that have simply not been done before.
